javi! is an IRC/IRCv3 client for iPhone developed by Smallhall.
This policy explains what information javi! stores or transmits when you use the app.
Summary
javi! does not contain advertising, analytics, tracking SDKs, or data-broker integrations.
We do not sell your personal data.
javi! is a client for IRC networks. Information you send to an IRC network is processed by that network according to its own policies.
Data stored on your device
javi! may store the following information locally on your device:
- your local javi! display name and avatar;
- configured IRC servers;
- network nicknames and account names;
- channels and direct-message conversations;
- message history;
- app preferences;
- connection and account configuration.
Diagnostic and protocol logs used during development are bounded and designed to redact credentials and other secrets.
Passwords and credentials
IRC account passwords and server passwords are stored using Apple's Keychain.
Where iCloud Keychain is enabled, supported credentials may synchronize between your Apple devices through iCloud Keychain.
Passwords are not stored in javi!'s CloudKit message-history records and are not intentionally written to application logs.
iCloud
javi! can use the user's private iCloud/CloudKit storage to synchronize supported app data, including:
- local profile information;
- server configuration;
- conversation metadata;
- app settings;
- message history.
This is private iCloud storage associated with your Apple ID.
javi! does not operate a separate cloud message-history service for this data.
If iCloud is unavailable, IRC messaging can continue using local storage.
IRC networks
When you connect to an IRC network, information required by the IRC protocol is sent to that network.
Depending on the network and your configuration, this may include:
- nickname;
- username and real-name field;
- IRC account name;
- registration email address;
- messages;
- channels you join;
- profile metadata;
- account-management commands.
This is necessary to provide the IRC service you chose to use.
Official javi! network
Smallhall operates the official javi! IRC network.
When you create or use an account there, the network may process information necessary to provide the service, such as your account name, registration information, messages, channel membership, and connection metadata.
The official network may retain server logs and operational metadata as necessary to operate, secure, troubleshoot, and prevent abuse of the service.
We do not use this information for advertising or cross-service tracking.
Third-party IRC networks
javi! can also connect to IRC networks operated by other organizations or individuals.
Smallhall does not control those networks.
Their operators may store messages, account information, IP addresses, logs, or other information according to their own privacy policies and retention practices.
You should review the policies of any third-party IRC network you choose to use.
Push notifications
javi! may use Apple Push Notification service (APNs).
To provide push notifications, javi! infrastructure may process:
- an APNs device token;
- delivery identifiers and operational metadata;
- encrypted notification envelopes.
Message payloads handled by the javi! push relay are encrypted for delivery to your device. The relay is not designed to read the message content contained in those encrypted envelopes.
Apple also processes push-notification data according to Apple's own privacy policies.
Photos and avatars
If you choose a local avatar using Apple's photo picker, the selected image is stored as part of your local javi! profile and may be included in your private iCloud synchronization.
Your local javi! avatar is not sent to IRC networks as your network profile image.
If an IRC user or network provides a remote avatar URL, javi! may request that image from the HTTPS host specified by that URL. That host may receive normal network information such as your IP address.
External links
Messages may contain links to websites.
When you open an external link, it is handled by iOS/the system browser. The destination website has its own privacy practices.
Analytics, advertising, and tracking
javi! currently uses:
- no advertising SDKs;
- no third-party analytics SDKs;
- no behavioral tracking;
- no cross-app advertising identifiers.
Account deletion
You can permanently delete an account on a supported IRC network from within javi! when that network provides account deletion.
Official javi! network
When you delete your account on the official javi! network, javi! first asks the network to schedule messages sent by your account in its indexed server-side history for deletion.
Your account is not unregistered until that history-deletion request has been accepted.
The server processes message deletion asynchronously, so removal of stored history may finish shortly after the account itself is deleted.
Once the IRC network confirms that your account has been unregistered, javi! clears the saved sign-in credentials and remembered account state for that network and initiates cleanup of its push-notification subscription.
Deleting your account does not guarantee removal of every copy of a message. Copies already received, saved, exported, or otherwise retained by other people may remain.
Deleting your account also does not remove data held by other IRC networks or other third parties.
Your conversations and message history stored locally by javi! on your device are not automatically deleted when you delete your IRC account.
If private iCloud sync is enabled, the private javi! archive stored in your own iCloud account is also not automatically deleted with the IRC account and may remain available for synchronization or restoration.
Third-party IRC networks
Accounts on IRC networks other than the official javi! network are operated by those networks, not by Smallhall.
Their operators determine what account information, messages, logs, and other data are retained or deleted when an account is removed.
javi! cannot delete data controlled by a third-party IRC network beyond the account-management operations that network makes available to the client.
Data retention
Local data remains on your device until it is removed by the app, by you, or by iOS.
Private iCloud data may remain available for synchronization and restoration while iCloud sync remains enabled and the corresponding data has not been removed.
Data held by IRC networks is subject to the retention policy of the network that received it.
Operational data on Smallhall infrastructure is retained only as reasonably necessary to operate, secure, troubleshoot, and protect the service.
Security
javi! supports encrypted IRC connections using TLS.
Passwords are stored using Apple's Keychain.
If you deliberately connect to an IRC server without TLS, IRC traffic and sign-in information may travel without transport encryption. javi! warns about this configuration.
Children
javi! is a general-purpose IRC client and is not designed or marketed specifically for children.
Public IRC networks may contain user-generated content intended for mature audiences.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy when javi! functionality or data practices change.
